About the Artist:
Nancy Muldowney started taking art classes when her children were young. She had only taken two art classes in college. One class, color theory, which she took as a fun elective has turned out to be a solid basis for her painting. She started in oils, originally, then went to watercolor, then picked up pastels, pen and ink, and finally studied printmaking for 6 years. She loves every medium that she tries because they each have wonderful unique qualities to them.

“I find great enjoyment in creating something from what was once a blank and undefined surface. It is the process of making one thing that becomes something else which intrigues and challenges me. In other words, it is the hunt rather than the which is hunted that brings me pleasure.”

Nancy loves color and enjoys trying to mix pigments to come up with the right hue needed. She likes emphasize things so that they stand out from their surroundings by making them different values and sizes.

Her work has been shown in Chicago, Boston, Maryland’s eastern Shore and in Georgia. She participated in a group show in France in 1990. Now she primarily shows her work in her own gallery, The Artshoppe. There are now two stores one in Brunswick and one on St. Simons at 164 Redfern Village.

“Between our picture framing business and my painting, I am kept pretty busy. However, I am able to fit two other things into my busy schedule — playing golf and being with out grandchildren. So my life right now is full.”
