ART That Makes You Smile

by Nancy Muldowney

Think about some of the happiest pictures that you have ever seen. Most likely they have yellows, blues and reds in them — the primary colors. Some of the simplest pictures can bring a ray of sunshine into your heart. You may even have one of these masterpieces pinned up on your refrigerator. Who are these great creators? They reside right in your own home.

Take a serious look one day at some of the wonderful pieces of art that your children bring home from art class or school. They are apt to paint in vibrant primary colors. You might realize that some of them would make great decoration for the walls in the children's rooms or in the bathroom or rec room.

Today, at the Artshoppe in Redfern Village and Golden Isles Plaza, we have some wonderful vibrant frames that are just made for kids' artwork. We have framed various pieces done by young artists. You might be surprised how happy some of these pictures can make you feel and how good they look on your walls, especially in a grouping. They are primitive, simple, colorful and just delightful. They are created truly from the heart.

Recently we have been watching a show called "Trading Spaces" where people decorate a room for a neighbor. Many times in this show they use artwork done by the participants, the "decorators", which is as uncomplicated as your kids art. These simple pieces look great in the right place.

So, think about displaying some of your children's art. Frame them in simple frames that you can use over and over as the skill of the artist progresses through the years. It also makes your child proud that you cared enough about what they have created. It may encourage them to continue to develop their own creativity. In many aspects of their environment today, they are made only to follow someone else's lead.
