Drymounting and Laminating

Drymounting is a process by which we adhere paper artwork, such as photos or posters, to a substrate like foamcore. This is done to keep the item flat and stationary. The Artshoppe can drymount, with a heat process, any size piece on 3⁄16“ foam core or 1⁄2“ foamcore, black or white. We have drymounted pieces up to 8‘ in length.

We do not drymount original or valuable pieces of art. In those cases, we use a reversible film that can be removed from the substrate the item of value is adhered to. It is possible to wet mount some items to keep them flat but it does depend upon the individual circumstances.

Laminating is another process we use by which heat is applied to adhere a film to a poster, map, etc. Print Guard®, a UV protectant, provides a pliable finish that is good for items that require rolling up or protective coating. As is the case for marine maps that need to be rolled up for storage and impervious to the elements. Print Guard comes in a matte finish to seal the paper product, making it water resistant and protected from the ultra violet light rays. A drymount tissue is applied underneath the paper, allowing it to be adhered to a stiff surface. The laminating film is placed on top of the paper and protects it from moisture and light.
