Matting Your Piece
The Artshoppe specializes in creating custom mats that not only to showcase and enhance your artwork, but also serve to protect and preserve your piece. Matting your artwork will provide a barrier from airborne pollutants, moisture and other damaging substances that can shorten the life of your art work. The mat board not only serves as a decorative window around your artwork but also prevents the glass or glazing from contacting the piece. This allows the artwork to expand and contract with changes in the environment.
We use only acid-free Crescent and Bainbridge mat boards that come in a wide variety of colors, textures and materials. We suggest standard acid-free mat materials for works of art on paper, certificates, diplomas or needlework. For extremely valuable works of art, textiles or documents; we recommend museum quality rag mat boards that will ensure that your art will last for years to come.
Should you require a custom sized mat board opening or specific outer dimension to enhance your piece, we have many options to choose from. Our Wizard® computerized mat cutter enables us to offer:
- Over 100 standard templates and CutArt, providing thousands of finished design combinations, up to 6 layers
- Place a v-groove around any opening
- Design and cut complex multiple layer and opening designs from the front or back
- Cut a reverse bevel on any mat design
- Custom mat designs
- Cut any True Type font (Name Mats)
- Adjust reveals to any width
- Cut paper mats, suede, linen, black core, metallic, color core, and many other textured matboard.
